Control charts for creators

· Steve Miller

Here’s a tool from the factory floor that creators should steal: the control chart.

You plot a metric over time and draw control limits around its normal range. As long as points stay inside the limits, the process is “in control” — the movement is just noise, and you do nothing. The moment a point breaks a limit (or a run of points drifts), you have a signal — something real changed, and it’s worth investigating.

That’s it. The chart’s entire job is to answer one question:

Is this change real, or is it noise?

It stops you from celebrating a lucky spike and from panicking over an ordinary dip. Applied to your content metrics, it turns a noisy dashboard into a short list of “these things actually changed.”

Giuro is, at heart, control charts for your content — plus the context to know what to do when a signal appears.
